IU Basketball

Posting for Monday, December 10th, 2012

What a year this has started out to be for the IU Hoosiers!  I have ALWAYS been a fan for as long as I can remember and was ALWAYS a huge Bobby Knight fan.  You have your opinion and I have mine, enough said.

In fact, when Brittanee was little, I would dress her up in an IU cheerleading outfit complete with red and white pom poms and we would watch the IU games.  So, you know I was over the moon, when she told me she was going to college at IU.  Although, I only attended one game there, it was such a thrill to finally make it to Assembly Hall after all those years.  Of course, Brittanee graduated from there too, but not the same as watching the Hoosiers play.  A BIG moment though *graduation* not slighting that at all.

I must admit I lost track for a short while, not really thrilled with the other coaches that came after Bobby Knight, they just lacked something.  They never really cared, or so it seemed, if they had fans in the stands or not.  I often heard that IU was the only school or one of the only since Coach Knight wasn't there that didn't even have a "student section" anymore.  And although, I didn't attend a college with any kind of sports, I can tell you from my high school years and attending many basketball games, sectionals, regionals, semi-state and state games, the student section helped the players and was tons of fun being involved in that!

So when Coach Crean came on the scene, he piqued my interest...a little.  I wasn't overly excited about him, didn't research him much.  Until.....I attended the first Hoosier Hysteria with Brittanee and he made Assembly Hall come alive.  He had all these big plans, I am pretty sure this was after their first awful year under his direction.  He promised to build up the student section again (brownie points), he was going to bring Hoosier basketball back to Indiana the way it should be played (I swear I felt like he was speaking truth), and he seemed genuine.  Something about the way he spoke, and his passion came radiating through his words and voice.  I believed what he said that night, and since that night he has lived up to those very words he spoke.  I am a Tom Crean fan now too, not a Bobby Knight, but he has earned my respect on his own rights!

I don't expect the Hoosiers to keep their undefeated record, although, it would be super fantastic if they could.  They are 9-0 and look at them 2 years ago, they have come such a long way, are full of outstanding talent, and have a great coach behind them!  Let's go Hoosiers, let's bring home a banner this year!!  How sweet would that be the same year Brittanee graduated from IU!
