While driving home from the grocery store this morning, I heard something on the radio that made me stop and think. There were people on the radio, probably around my age, talking about what they did as a child for fun. How you played outside from morning til the street light came on and you got along with kids in your neighborhood. You didn't have to worry about getting shot, abducted, molested, stabbed while you were out in the neighborhood having some good clean fun.
Nowadays, kids have Ipads, Iphones, Ipods, video games, etc. They would just as soon hole up in the house then get out and socialize with kids their age. God forbid they let an ounce of sun shine on their skin. I am sure some kids still try out their skateboard now and then, some still shoot hoops in the neighborhood park, some kids still go to the park to throw the baseball around, but not many.
These days one is afraid to leave their house at all, with all the stabbings, people carrying baseball bats daring for someone to look at them wrong, carrying a gun seems to be second nature, and of course the drunkards getting in their cars driving down the wrong side of the road sometimes crashing into things, sometimes not.
Thanks to Evansville Watch, I know what is going on in da Ville! I am addicted to that site, and it does let me know if I want to venture out or not some times.
I do miss the olden days. I always thought that was funny when my parents used to say that, now I completely understand
