I have always loved the Brady Bunch when I was little, still watch them when I catch them from time to time on cable channels, and even own a few seasons on dvd's. I loved the big family, how everyone got along, they all sat down and had dinner together, were always able to sit down and talk through their problems, and each of the story lines seemed like it could happen to the average American family.
They said things like marvy, groovy, etc. I have always like the groovy word and use it quite often to this day still. Hence, I have really come to love the peace sign. I have shirts with peace signs, a bracelet that means the world to me with peace signs, socks with peace signs, a dear friend even got me a lamp with peace signs on it last Christmas. You get the gist of this.
Well, a few years back at JC Penney's I had found, you guessed it, a peace sign purse. It is psychedelic with beautiful neon bright colors. I have only carried it a few times. When my daughter, Brittanee, saw this said purse, the first thing out of her mouth was "that looks like a pot smoking purse, Mom." What?!! I have NEVER smoked pot in my life, nor do I want to do so on any given day, but that floored me. Is that what people really associate peace signs with?
I have heard hippie comments too, and incense. I just don't get it. It's like my neighbor down the street may collect butterflies, or a hunter has a deer hanging over the couch in their living room--it is what that individual likes. Although I personally woud not want a deer head anywhere in my house, I am not going to call him names for having that in his house or something he enjoys.
I also collect dolphins and celestial things. But peace signs represent "groovy" to me. And I refuse to change, and I may just break out my allegedly "pot smoking purse" again in the very near future......
